Macomb County Detachment Marine Corps League The Macomb County Detachment was chartered by the National Headquarters in 1977 and has remained active since that time. At present, we are one of the fastest growing Detachment’s in the state. We take pride in being Marines and have donated time and resources to various Veterans’ causes. We are contributors to Toys for Tots, the Young Marines of the Marine Corps League and various Veterans hospitals and centers. We participate in dedication ceremonies on Memorial Day and Veterans Day at local cemeteries and the Mt. Clemens Veterans Memorial Wall. If one of our members passes away, we are there ready to assist in the final farewell to that Marine. We observe the Marine Corps Birthday each year on November 10th with a birthday party. At the Birthday Party, we observe the traditions that are followed at Marine Corps Installations. Any Marine is welcome to join us in the celebrations. Our meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 2000 Hours (8 PM) at the American Legion, Post 351 located in Utica. Some of our members enjoy coming to the meeting a little early to swap stories of their DI’s or how it was in the “Old Corps”. You are more than welcome to drop by and exchange some of your experiences. Just remember, you are not a stranger – you are a member of a brotherhood – you are a Marine. If you are a former or currently serving Marine, we would be pleased to welcome you aboard. The only qualification required is more than 90 days service in the Marine Corps and an Honorable Discharge or a Discharge Under Honorable Conditions. You must provide a copy of your Discharge or DD214 with your application to prove your eligibility. Purpose of the Macomb County Detachment Marine Corps League To Preserve the traditions, promote the interest and perpetuate the history of the United States Marine Corps and by fitting acts, to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines. To Band those who are now serving the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from the service together in fellowship, that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy. To Hold sacred the memory and history of men and women who have given their lives to the Nation. To Foster love for the principles they have supported by blood and valor since the founding of the Republic. To Maintain true allegiance to American institutions. To Aid voluntarily and render assistance to all Marines, uniformed and civilian, as well as to their widows and orphans. To Observe the anniversaries of the historical occasions of Peculiar interest to Marines, such as the Marine Corps Birthday, Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
